PSIRF, QI & Insights from the HSJ Patient Safety Congress | Tutum Medical

PSIRF, QI and what we learnt from the HSJ Patient Safety Congress

Having just returned from the HSJ Patient Safety Congress in Manchester, it’s clear that PSIRF (Patient Safety Incident Response Framework) and Quality Improvement (QI) are front of mind for many healthcare professionals.   This was Tutum Medical’s first in-person conference and we were thrilled by the interest in our BEAMS technology.  We look forward to following up with all the contacts we made – please bear with us as the list is long! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand.

What have we learnt about PSIRF?

Patient Safety Events happen.  Unfortunately it’s part of delivering healthcare.  What is important is that healthcare providers learn from events to reduce the risk of these events happening again.  Investigating, listening, learning and sharing information with patients, families and healthcare professionals is central to the framework. Many attendees at the HSJ Congress highlighted the need for innovative solutions to track and learn from patient safety events, and BEAMS is well-suited to provide this data.

Ward Strain and Its Impact on Patient Safety.

One of the most frequent topics raised was ward strain and its correlation to patient safety incidents and staff wellbeing.  Until this week Tutum Medical has focused on improving patient safety in wards and reducing response times for critical bedside alarms, with the data being used as evidence of improvement.  However, at The HSJ Patient Safety Congress we were asked by many professionals about the data BEAMS holds relating to ward strain, and events over a given period of time.

BEAMS holds data indefinitely in a secure cloud environment.  Our data tells you what alarms were sounding at any given time, and can give governance insight of the ward strain in that ward.  It can also demonstrate which alarms were responded to the quickest and in which location.  In addition those alarms that were acknowledged, but not responded to immediately, demonstrating clinical decision-making by staff.

Data-driven Insights into Ward Strain and Patient Safety.

If you would like this level of data for your wards please contact us today for a free trial of BEAMS. Let’s see how we can help enhance safety and quality in your healthcare environment.
